Electric City Aquarium & Reptile Den

The Electric City Aquarium & Reptile Den was opened in the fall of 2018 at the Steamtown Marketplace in Scranton, PA. The 20,000 sq. ft. space provides a home for sea and land creatures, along with spaces to accommodate educational, event, and shopping activities.
Studio m provided architectural services & coordinated specialty equipment as well as structural modification to the existing mall building and parking structure below. The unique project included input from various teams and organizations from across the country & required continuous updates thru construction to ensure a smooth, on-time opening.
Unique items required coordination with aesthetics and code compliance.
The tank room features the largest habitats for fish and offers a variety of viewing areas.

The former retail storefronts were converted into graphic walls to accommodate the layout while still providing a positive aesthetic for the mall.
The gift shop maintains a retail footprint in the mall while integrating itself into the progression thru the aquarium.
In order for the tanks to operate properly, specialty equipment areas exist throughout the space. This room is located below the aquarium in the parking garage. The room also serves as additional structure for the heavy tanks above.
