HISTORY

Studio m Architecture + Design, LLC was founded in 2013 by Tim McLain Jr., AIA, NCARB and offers Architectural & Interior Design services. The experience and variety of projects that Tim has completed offers an ideal breadth of knowledge to make it possible.

EXPERIENCE

Graduating in 2002 with both his Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Interior Design, Tim's experience started early with The University of Cincinnati's co-op program. Two years of experience gave the advantage over similar job candidates after graduation. Utilizing the program to the fullest extent, Tim worked at a wide array of firms ranging from boutique design firms in NYC to mid-size firms in Chicago and large multi-office firms in Santa Monica. The pursuit for the ideal fit continued through the years and included work on single family homes, commercial fit-out services, 30,000 sq. ft. office buildings, 100,000 sq.ft. academic projects, and many others in between. Over the years, Tim has found himself drawn to smaller firms due to the amount of responsibility and opportunity to be involved in more aspects of the profession. The final step would be to do it all and open the doors of Studio m.

VISION

To be accessible. It sounds so simple, but most people do not think that they can afford an Architect, and most Architects do not make themselves available to more people. Most clients with larger projects feel that a "larger firm" is the way to go to ensure that the project gets the attention it deserves. In reality, there's usually only 1 or 2 people running a small to mid-size project regardless of the firm's size- along with 4 or 5 other jobs.

PROCESS

The overall methodology of the approach is "listen and learn". Experience brings a great deal to the table when working on a design problem, but it's not the only thing that matters. Every client has unique requirements, ideas, and needs for their project - some that they don't even know about. A successful project will be one that combines the experience and input of Studio m with the wants and needs of the client. In the end, it's our project. We'll both be happy if we end up with a concise design that responds to the needs of whoever is utilizing the space. . . truly, it is that simple.
